RoE "Operations & Objectives" pre-order now
This sourcebook allows players to introduce a strategic level to their WWII gaming. Taking control of company sized formations on the campaign map, sides compete to accomplish objectives set by the upper echelons of their commands.
Designed for multiple players using the “Rules of Engagement” tabletop wargame, this addition will encourage gamers to carefully consider every turn within a game of RoE, any poor decision at platoon level could cost the campaign!
Campaign rules provide all that is needed to play including map generation, terrain features, supply lines, tactical reserves, resolving casualties and special rules such as railheads, para drops, airstrikes and the random fortunes of war!! Also includes the sample historical scenario, “The Defence of St. Vith”.
Operations & Objectives is easily convertible for use with any system, from ancients to sci-fi. We will be putting pdf's on our site from release date to convert Operations & Objectives to other systems (first up will be WAB).
To pre-order, simply send a request for a paypal invoice to info@greatescapegames.co.uk entitled "Ops & Obs Pre-order" and including your shipping address. Cost is £ 10 with free shipping to the UK, £1 Europe and £2 for the rest of the world for pre-orders. Expected shipping date is Oct 12th.
Follow the link to have a closer look at the book.

Is this the big Normandy game that's been on the cards for ages.....?
I've got my RMs painted (Lovatt's Special Service Brigade to relieve Pegasus bridge), the Para's need painting, just need Alan to knock up Pegasus Bridge and/or Merville Battery and we'll be ready to give the Hun a damn good thrashing
PS can we have rules for Naval Fire Support (a 6inch gun Cruiser would be nice)
PPS New book looks spot on. Keep up the good work Mark and Stu
PPPS Any news on the Tank Book

We usually just play with a paper hex map, solins, but the 'proper' set-up looks and feels great.

When you show such great flocked hex, how can you imagine we will play on paper hex ?
No, I'm lost ... I must found a solution to play in such nice conditions.

I read the whole.
It's complex but not complicated, a very good point.
I think this kind of play require a referee if you're more than two players to avoid unending discussions, or two of them become CiC and resolve all disagreements.
Playing one or more board game option campaigns is a good idea so you can learn mechanisms without wasting the entire club campaign by mistake or misunderstood rules. In fact, it's a game by itself, a very pleasant one for solo gaming IMO.
I really like the reinforcement system, the rules of movement and the order and scenario systems.
The only sad point is the CE points for the defender. Used to play FJ and SS grenadiers or SS panzergrenadiers, i'm not sure that playing 14 CE command and supply platoons will be enjoyable in front of tanks.
I regret the fact that only full paratroopers companies can drop and not only one or two platoons.
And I see two "page xx" references (one page 13, issue order, one page 14 plotting a fire mission.)
But it's a exceptional work and a great system.
I hope to use it.

Hi Solins
When we have been doing the playtesting, we tended to have a single commander for each side, who would control the movement of the elements on the map and that worked really well.
We have also tried it with collaborative decision making and that seems to work too. I guess it depends on how much the players (on the same side) are prepared to compromise in agreeing the strategy. I can see what you mean though - agreeing strategy could take while if the players have very different views. ;-)
Something that I'm sure Stuart and Mark will echo is that if you want to change the CE points for the defender, then go ahead. Once you have bought the game, it's yours to do what you want with.
Having said that, the last few games that I have played were as Germans (15CE) defending against Canadians (20CE). I didn't win either game, but the games were balanced and enjoyable to play. At least I gave the Canucks a bloody nose in both games.
The thing about the command and supply elements is that they are not really intended to be used in a combat role, although it is good if you can wipe out your opponent's HQ and supply. Each unit fulfils another purpose in the game - knock those out and your opponent should suffer.
Post up some campaign results on here when you have had a chance to play. I look forward to seeing them.
